-- Seaford Karate Club Championships --
The Seaford Karate Club Championships took place at
Annecy School on Sunday 16th December 2007. A
good turnout of competitors and family support gave this
event a great atmosphere, and everyone was catered
for with plenty of cakes and drinks being sold alongside
the club t-shirts. Sensei Martin Dean along with Steve
Jakes, Ivan Wilson and Rose Franks refereed the event
and Sampai Rob Allchin turned photographer for the
day.
The evening started with games for the children
followed by the kata events. At the intermission some
more games were played as the adults went out for
some cakes and then the kumite event got underway.
After all the finals had been decided and the medals
were handed out, Sensei Martin then gave out member
of the year awards and we managed to pack away just
in time.
Thanks to all those who helped out on the day.

-- Seaford Member of the Year Award --
The Seaford Karate Club member of the year award is presented by Sensei Martin Dean to the students who have trained and improved the most showing courage and determination. The novice class has grown well and there were a number of deserving students in the running for the award. This years winner took a silver medal at the FSKA World Championships and has shown promise in all areas of his karate. Our winner this year is Lewis Finch. In the children's advanced class many of the students show the correct attitude to win this award, discipline, focus and willingness to learn are all important. Competition has produced great success for many students but out shining everyone else was Chris Fleischer. In the adult class we have some good up and coming karateka but for the first time this award when to a black belt. His dedication to karate sees him training more than 6 hours a week. He passed his 2nd Dan and won a FSKA World Championship bronze medal in Kata in October and deserved to be named member of the year, Sensei Steve Jakes.
Novice Junior member of the Year award - Lewis Finch
Junior member of the Year award - Chris Fleischer
Senior member of the year award - Steve Jakes
Congratulation to these three members, who have all excelled throughout last year, passing their gradings successfully, winning medals at karate tournaments and having excellent attendance records. They have shown commitment and dedication to their karate and we hope this not only continues but they improve even further on their long road in karate.
-- Dogberry and Bob --
The premiere of Brighton based comedy film Dogberry and Bob took place at the Duke of York theatre on Saturday 15th December 2008. "Stars" of the film from Seaford Karate Club turned out for the event were Sensei Martin, Rose, Emily, Elizabet and Polly Franks. They appear in the film as a ladies self defence class which is infiltrated by a man dressed as a woman, with some hilarious acting and a well written script. The pre-film party was well attended but the midnight showing proved a bit late for some of the viewers and we missed the after show party for an early night.
